Member for Page, Janelle Saffin today announced that the Australian and NSW Governments will provide a $262,655 funding for home and community services in Page delivered through the Home and Community Care program.
The Home and Community Care program (HACC) provides affordable and accessible care to help meet the individual needs of older people, people with a disability and their carers to help them remain living independently. It is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales governments.
The additional funding is part of $28 million package provided to organisations throughout New South Wales.
Ms Saffin said: “Home and Community Care services provide the practical assistance that many older Australians need to complete day-to-day tasks.
The funding package provides support for local HACC services including:
- Lismore Home Modification Service Inc - $101,655
- Casino Neighbourhood Centre Inc for Multi Service Outlet - $ 22,000
- Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre Domestic Assistance - $ 6,000
- Northern Rivers Social Development Council to enhance HACC - $ 25,000
existing service
- Ballina Meals on Wheels for purchase and installation of freezer - $ 18,000
- Kyogle District Care Connections Inc for Casino/Kyogle HACC - $ 50,000
home maintenance service
- Northern Rivers Community Transport Inc social support - $ 40,000
Ms Saffin said: “The funding will help many people continue to live in their own homes and communities, close to family and friends, rather than move prematurely into residential care.
“More than 233,000 people in New South Wales benefited from home and community care services last financial year.
“I’ve seen the real difference that the services delivered through this program makes to the daily lives of people in the electorate of Page,” Ms Saffin said.
The Australian Government is contributing $16.83 million and the New South Wales Government is contributing almost $11.29 million in funding for this $28.12 million package.
The total 2009-10 annual investment in HACC services in the state is more than $586.85 million – an increase of more than seven per cent on last year.
