Page MP Janelle Saffin says hundreds of computers promised to local schools are under threat, with Tony Abbott planning to rip computer funding away from local schools.
“I receive many inquiries from local families keen to know when their students will be receiving their computers, Ms Saffin said.
“We are getting on with the job of providing computers for every school student – it’s going to take some time, but we aim to have one computer per student by the end of next year.
“But there is a big risk to that plan – it’s Tony Abbot and his $700 million cut which will take away computers from local schools.
“This will mean hundreds of students will miss out on a computer in our area.
“The Government has delivered over 260,000 computers to help over 2,300 schools get the technology they need and is on track to meet its commitment of having one computer per student by the end of next year, with the states currently conducting large scale roll outs.
“But the risk is that Tony Abbott will cut the funding to schools yet to receive their computers – including many in our local schools.
“The Coalition candidate, Mr Hogan, needs to explain why the Federal National and Liberal parties support Tony Abbott’s plan to cut these computers from our local schools,” Ms Saffin said.
Computers to be cut by Tony Abbott in local schools are: Blue Hills College 2 Biala Special School 1 Summerland Christian College 10 Casino Christian School 3 Emmanuel Anglican College 9 St Andrew's Christian School 9 Clarence Valley Anglican School 9 St Mary's High School 32 Trinity Catholic College 98 McAuley Catholic College 41 St John's College Woodlawn 58 Bonalbo Central School 5 South Grafton High School 76 Woodenbong Central School 10 Grafton High School 78 Casino High School 59 Kyogle High School 34 Ballina High School 47 Southern Cross School 57 Kadina High School 43 Lismore High School 67 Richmond River High School 41 Alstonville High School 71 Evans River Community School 26 Wilson Park School 2 Induna School 3
